OVERVIEW

  1. Complete upgrade to facilitate cyclists and road users through the construction of new cycleways, kerb&gutter, pedestrian crossings, road resheeting, 4 speed humps and stormwater lines.
  2. Construction of a Gross Pollutant Trap with a 22 hectare catchment area expected to filter approximately 24 tonnes of pollutants including litter, sediment, and organics from the surrounding community annually.
  3. Sewer diversion and High pressure gas main protection.
  4. Installation of Structural Vehicle Height Restriction Barriers for the existing rail bridge over Woodbrook Road.

SCOPE OF WORKS

  • Installation of 900mm diameter reinforced concrete piles.
  • Construction of concrete pile caps and erection of concrete columns.
  • Fabrication and installation of two structural crash barrier beams with a structural steel surround and reinforced concrete infill.
  • Fabrication and installation of structural steel frames to house crash protection barriers including the installation of rubber dock fenders and elastomeric bearing strips to serve as energy dissipators in case of collisions.
  • Integration of a GPT unit, involving:
    • Dewatering, stormwater bypass/pumping, and temporary cofferdam for diversion during construction.
    • Necessary shoring for supporting excavated earth banks, pit walls, and trench walls.
    • Excavation of spoil, including rock, for GPT and diversion chamber.
    • Backfilling and compaction for GPT.
    • Installation of GPT and diversion chamber with crane and equipment.
    • Construction of cast in-situ weir, concrete surround, end-walls, and benching.
  • Sewer diversion.
  • Construction of concrete footpaths, pram ramps, concrete road slabs, and commercial driveways, guardrails and trailing terminals.
  • Installation of kerb and gutter with subsoil drainage.
  • Construction of kerb inlet pits, including extended chambers and installation of RCP.
  • Asphalt paving.
  • Turfing and topsoiling.

COMPLEXITIES

The crash protection barriers had several services within 0.5m of piling works that had to be managed including electrical and high-pressure gas mains. Convil Group had to complete NDD and implement other controls to manage this.

The crash protection barriers where directly in a railway and bridge corridor with the crane and piling rig impacting the Safe Approach Distance of LV/HV overheads. Convil Group had to coordinate with TfNSW regarding the works and implement height restriction controls to ensure the works was completed successfully without impacting the rail corridor.

The crash protection barriers were in the vicinity (within 0.5m) of a heritage bridge structure and piling, craning 10T and 15m long beams, concreting and excavation works was undertaken in this vicinity making it complex
