SCOPE OF WORKS

The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted Convil Group to undertake the development of the newest major park in Leppington spanning 7.6 hectares. This project provides a major development to land acquired by the NSW Government, transforming this open space to a principal open space for the local community, delivered under the ‘Parks for People’ program.

The muti-stage scope of works for this project included:

Access Road Construction (Stage 1)

  • Clearing and grubbing of dense grassland and bush over a footprint of over 17,600m2 including over 3000m3 of stripped ground cover and topsoil.
  • Removal of over 40 mature trees and dense vegetation during the clearing for the access road under the supervision of both an arborist and ecologist.
  • Decommissioning and removal of 4 existing aerial electrical power lines and poles from the access road area.
  • Bulk cut to fill earthworks involving over 7,800m3 of material.
  • Carriageway box out to 300mm beneath FSL.
  • Construction of over 2,000 lineal meters of road verge using site won material.
  • Excavation and shaping of over 1,500 lineal meters of swale, including installation of straw bales at 20m intervals.
  • Construction of 2x 40m long 375mm RC Pipe Culverts beneath the access road, including the supply and installation of x2 grated surface inlet pits and x2 concrete headwalls including rip rap rock.
  • Construction of a 12m long reinforced concrete box culvert beneath the access road including 2x headwalls and rip rap rock at the downstream headwall.
  • Importation, conditioning, placement, compaction and grading of over 1,500 tonnes of DGS sub-base material.
  • Importation, conditioning, placement in layers, compaction and grading of over 3,000 tonnes of DGB base material.
  • Hydro mulching of over 15,000m2 to all swales and verges.
  • Supply and application of a 14/7mm two coat seal.

 

Park Construction (Stage 2)

  • Clearing and grubbing of dense grassland and bush over a footprint of over 15,000m2.
  • Removal of over 20 mature trees and dense vegetation during the clearing for the park and adjacent footpaths under the supervision of both an arborist and ecologist.
  • Decommissioning and removal of 4 existing aerial electrical power lines and poles from the park and playground area.
  • Bulk cut to fill earthworks involving over 5,200m3 of material.
  • Importation of a fill shortfall including over 2,000 tonnes of DGS material.
  • Construction of x4 stormwater lines including 138 lineal meters of RC pipe and uPVC pipes. Includes installation of x4 headwalls with rip rap rock, x3 grated stormwater pits and x2 v-drain grated pits.
  • Installation of over 1,000m of sub-soil drainage to retaining walls and garden beds.
  • Supply and installation of over 600 lineal meters of sandstone log retaining wall and decorative billets up to 3 courses high.
  • Supply, delivery and installation of play equipment, including the construction of structural footings.
  • Involved the coordination of over 15 different playground contractors during installation.
  • Supply and installation of 270m2 of rubber soft fall to suit fall zones and heights.
  • Includes construction of a rubber wet pour play mound and scramble banks.
  • Supply and placement of play mulch to suit fall zones and heights.
  • Construction of over 700 lineal meters of asphalt loop path throughout the park and spanning across multiple playgrounds.
  • Construction of over 300m2 of concrete footpath, including a BBQ hardstand area.
  • Construction of 50 lineal meters of flush kerb.
  • Construction of 60 lineal meters of concrete dish drain.
  • Construction of a concrete staircase with handrails.
  • Construction of decorative ‘crazy pave’ pavement.
  • Construction of decomposed granite rest stops and playground infills.
  • Supply and installation of sandstone seating logs, stepper blocks and stepping stone pavers.
  • Supply, planting and maintenance of over 5,000 plants ranging in size from tube stock to 200L.
  • Supply and installation of furniture and fixtures including picnic tables, benches, seat, bin enclosures, bicycle hoops and bollards.
  • Construction of a 3-unit accessible amenities building including electrical and plumbing provisions and footing construction.
  • Construction of a multipurpose half court including line marking and sports equipment.
  • Includes the supply and installation of a basketball tower and hoop and netball tower and ring.
  • Construction of 2x shade sail structures over playground equipment and a cantilever picnic shelter including footing construction.
  • Construction of a 17 car space asphalt carpark including accessible parking spaces.
  • Hydromulching of over 5,000m2 to soft scaped areas.

 

New Services

  • Electrical supply works including installation of 300m of underground mains cable, supply and installation of a mains switchboard, supply and installation of a distribution board to the amenities building and connection to an endeavour energy electrical pole.
  • Potable water supply works including installation of over 500m of Polyethylene Water supply, installation of 2x taps and supply and installation of a drinking fountain. Including connection to the water main and installation of a commercial water meter.
  • Sewage management works including the supply and installation of a 3,000L septic tank and a 5,000L sewer holding tank including a sewer pump out line.

 

Pump Track Construction (Stage 3):

  • Detailed excavation and grading of a bicycle pump track.
  • Construction of an asphalt pavement to the pump track by hand. Includes detailed and technical formwork to retain asphalt through humps, dips and elevated turns.
  • Hand seeding to pump track surrounds.
